MIDI Status Insertion
Some older MIDI equipment will not operate correctly if they
receive MIDI data which contains running
status commands. This unit inserts MIDI Status commands before
each midi data byte (or bytes) to be transmitted.
The MIDI Status Insertion unit utilizes:
- A Printed Circuit Board (PCB),
- A pre-programmed 16F877 PIC,
- A PCB screw terminal power socket and associated LED, and 9v
battery connector
- A MIDI 5-pin DIN input socket,
- A MIDI 5-pin DIN output socket,
- The circuit schematic is available
in GIF format,
- The circuit layout is also available.
The MIDI Status Insertion unit requires:
- A 9 Volt battery or equivalent 9 Volt DC power source
Operation:
If MIDI data from any MIDI channel is detected it is checked
for a MIDI Status byte. When a Status byte is detected the unit
recognizes it and determines the number of data bytes required.
When these byte(s) are transmitted the unit will insert the active
MIDI Status byte before transmitting further data bytes, if the
MIDI input is operating in running
status mode.
